Exoticerleben stands for root wood furniture with FELGT certificate

The teak root wood comes from forestry plantations in Indonesia that were created during the Dutch colonial period. When the teak trees reached maturity and were felled, the resulting areas were mostly fallow because they were not used for agricultural purposes due to the large rootstocks. Some of these roots were then dug up by local farmers in order to use the areas for cultivation.
We discovered these unique types of teak roots/rootstocks by chance while visiting our teak suppliers. What was initially a fixed idea is now an exclusive root wood furniture collection with a root coffee table, floor lamp and other unusual furniture made from root wood.
Of course, all wood used comes exclusively from these plantations, where the corresponding certificates are availablen. Every piece of furniture has a “Legal Wood” test number where the origin of the wood can be clearly proven. For every delivery to Germany, we carry out a complex FLEGT verification in order to have this confirmed by an official body. FLEGT is an English acronym that stands for “Forestry Law Enforcement, Policy Making and Trade”. The core parts of the plan are the “Voluntary Partnership Agreements” VPA, i.e. voluntary but binding partnership agreements, and the EU Timber Trade Regulation.
As part of the EU Partnership Agreements (VPA), partner countries set up a permit and licensing system to ensure that only legally harvested wood is exported to the EU. In return, they receive direct support to improve their forest management and law enforcement capacity. All affected actors, i.e. politics, industry and civil society, are involved in this process. The aim of these agreements is to support reforms in wood-producing countries that are intended to curb illegal logging on site and at the same time combat its causes such as corruption or unclear legislation.
You can buy our root wood furniture with a clear conscience.
